Public Boating Course – Special Weekend Edition
New to boating, seeking a refresher on rules and regs or adding a crew member? Join us for the 2018 Boating Safety Course at Pier 33. This course will be presented by the South Bend Sail & Power Squadron, on site at Pier 33 in St. Joseph. Instructors will cover the usual five-week course in two weekend sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm, with the final exam on the third weekend.

Some of the topics to be covered include:
- Types of boats and their uses
- Boating laws, both local and national
- Safety equipment, both required and recommended
- Finding your way, and adverse conditions
- Communications
- Trailering, knots and lines, and water sports topics
- Optionally, introduction to navigating using digital and paper charts
Participants who successfully complete the Public Boating Course – Special Weekend Edition and exam will be awarded a certificate of completion recognized by the National Association of Safe Boating Laws Administrators (NASBLA), a certification recognized by participating states as meeting required safe boating training and may qualify for a discount on boat insurance
Dates – (Three Saturdays) April 21, 28 & May 12
Location – Pier 33 Marina, St. Joseph, MI
Time – Classes are 9:00am to 1:00pm. Check-in begins the first day at 8:45am.
Cost – $ 40.00 for the first family member, includes the course and book, $ 25.00 for the next family member, includes the course and a book. Any additional family members from the same household can take the course, sit for the exam and get a certificate of completion , for free, but no book will be provided.
